MaintainIT Project events coming up

Hi there,

My name is Sarah Washburn, and I work for TechSoup's MaintainIT Project, an effort to share how libraries are supporting public computers. We talk to hundreds of libraries from across the country so we can share stories from libraries like the Suwanee River Regional Library or the Alachua County Library District or the Calhoun County Public Library or even Chad Mairn (from this blog!), so that libraries from across the country can learn from libraries in Florida and other places.

You can download a FREE Cookbook on our site to learn more about how libraries are supporting public computers. Read about setting up wireless, developing laptop checkout programs, locking down computers, and many other practical tips from libraries.

So, in the title of this post I promised I'd talk about free events coming up, so here's one:

If you've already downloaded a Cookbook and would like to chat with others about how you've used it, or how you'd like to use a Cookbook in your library, come to an informal Cookbook Book Club webinar, a technology book club where you can learn about the resources others have used in a friendly setting.

Sign up here if you're interested in joining the discussions. Book Clubs will cover many topics over the next months, so please sign up so we can be sure to let you know when the next one is scheduled.

On that topic, the first Book Club is on June 24th, at 11:00 am PST. The topic is Setting Up a Wireless Network, found in Chapter One of Recipes for a 5-Star Library (download it here). Please sign up if you'd like to attend. More details soon. I hope to see you there.

More fun stuff to come, and please, if you haven't yet talked to us at the MaintainIT Project, please get in touch. We'd love to spotlight more Florida libraries!
